Nine faculty members in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ of Computer Science have received new professorial promotions, effective July 1, 2019. 

Six teaching stream faculty were promoted to the rank of Full Professor, Teaching Stream. U of T introduced teaching stream professorial ranks in 2015, to reflect U of T’s emphasis on the importance of teaching and learning. These faculty are also the first in the department to receive this ranking.

Three tenure stream faculty were also promoted to the rank of Full Professor - the highest rank for faculty appointments in the tenure stream.

Professor, Teaching Stream

Professor Campbell was awarded the Faculty of Arts & Science Outstanding Teaching Award in 2014, and was the recipient of the Dean’s Excellence Award several times. In 2018, she was named Senior Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She co-authored a textbook, entitled Practical Programming: An Introduction to Computer Science using Python 3 with Professor Paul Gries. 

Professor, Teaching Stream

Professor Craig currently serves as Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies. She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, was named an ACM Distinguished Lecturer in 2016 and was the recipient of the Arts and Science Outstanding Teaching Award in 2017. Most recently, she received the President’s Teaching Award in 2019. 

Professor

Professor Brown served as Associate Chair of Graduate Studies from 2015 to 2019. In 2008 she received a teaching award from the Computer Science Students Union. She is also a member of ACM, IEEE and USENIX. Her research interests are in operating systems, file system reliability, run-time adaptation, binary instrumentation, and compiler optimization.

Professor, Teaching Stream

Professor Engels was awarded the Faculty of Arts & Science Dean’s Outstanding Teaching Award in 2016 and was the recipient of the Computer Science Student Union Teaching Awards for 2003-2004, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. He also founded and organizes the , the first of its kind in Canada that showcases student talent in game design, animation and computer science programs from colleges and university across Ontario.

Professor

Professor Ganjali currently serves as Associate Chair of Research and is a member of the department’s Computer Systems and Networks Group. His research interests include packet switching architectures/algorithms, software defined networks, data center networking, congestion control, network measurements, and online social networks.

Professor, Teaching Stream

Professor Gries has twice been the recipient of the University of Toronto Students' Union/Association of Part-time Undergraduate Students Award (2005, 2011). He also received the Faculty of Arts and Science Outstanding Teaching Award in 2006, the University of Toronto President's teaching award in 2011, and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Teaching Award in 2012. He co-authored a textbook, entitled Practical Programming: An Introduction to Computer Science using Python 3 with Professor Jennifer Campbell. 

Professor, Teaching Stream

Professor Horton has received three Computer Science Student Union Awards and was the winner of the 2006 Joan E. Foley Quality of Student Experience Award. In 2015, she received the University of Toronto President's Teaching Award. Most recently, she won a 2015-2016 OCUFA Teaching Award from the The Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations.

Professor, Teaching Stream

Professor Reid served as Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies from 2011-2013. She was honoured to receive a Faculty of Arts and Science Outstanding Teaching Award in 2008, the Joan E. Foley Quality of Student Experience Award in 2011, the President's Teaching Award in 2012, and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Teaching Award in 2014.

Professor

Professor Truong served as Associate Chair of Research from 2015 to 2017. He was a former member of the World Economic Forum Future Council as well as the Ubicomp Conference Steering Committee. His research investigates tools and methods to support the development of novel ubiquitous computing systems and techniques and models to facilitate user interactions with off-the-desktop computing devices and services. His current work also includes the design and evaluation of assistive technologies and context sensing applications.
