Gennady Pekhimenko receives early-career awards from Google, VMware

Assistant Professor has received early-career research awards from both Google and VMware in support of his research in the areas of computer architecture, systems and applied machine learning.

From Google, he is the recipient of a 2022 Google Research Scholar Program award, given to early-career professors conducting world-class research. His awarded proposal is entitled 鈥淗olistic Systems Techniques for Efficient Training of Deep Learning Models.鈥

From VMware, he is the recipient of a VMware Early Career Faculty Grant, given to recently-appointed faculty whose research interests and accomplishments seem poised to have significant impact within the industry and academia.

Pekhimenko is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough 海角视频 of Computer and Mathematical Sciences and the tri-campus graduate 海角视频 of Computer Science. He is also an alumnus of the 海角视频 of Computer Science, having earned his MSc at U of T before completing his PhD at Carnegie Mellon University.

At U of T, he leads the research group, which aims to make existing computing systems faster, more power/energy efficient, safer and robust. He is also a faculty member of the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence and a CIFAR AI Chair.
